Your boss offered you the possibility of working from home for at least one or two days each week. Should you say yes?
Working from home isn’t for everybody. Some people need to be among their coworkers to thrive, and they would feel miserable if they had to sit alone at their kitchen table or in their small home office.
On the other hand, some people love working from home. It makes them feel freer and more productive.
Could it be a good option for you? See if these seven good reasons to work from home resonate with you.
1. It gives you the freedom to work when and where you want
When you work from home, you can make your schedule and decide when you want to work.
However, depending on your work type, you might need to do it during regular work hours to interact with your coworkers and clients. You will also need to rely on digital workplace software to communicate and collaborate with colleagues.
But even if you are expected to work from 9 to 5 daily, you’ll still have more freedom. Because when you work from home, you don’t always have to work from home: you can work from your favourite coffee shop or from your hotel room in a city you want to visit.
2. You can save plenty of time and money on commute
Do you hate spending much time in your car or on public transportation daily? When you decide to work from home, you won’t have to do this anymore.
You save plenty of time and money commuting when your office is inside your home. You can invest the money you save in something you love. And if you don’t know what to do with all that free time, you could just go for a short walk around the block before getting started on your tasks.
3. It’s easy to spend more time with your family
When you work from home, spending more time with your family or friends is easy. Instead of leaving your home early in the morning to make sure you don’t miss the subway, you can take your time and enjoy a nice breakfast with the people you love.
You can also do anything you want during your lunch break instead of eating at your desk or in your office’s break room.
4. You can take breaks whenever you want
When you work, do you often feel the need to get up and stretch your legs but don’t want to do it because you feel judged by your coworkers? Taking breaks whenever you want is another good reason to work from home.
You can do it on your terms whenever you need to take a short walk, breathe fresh air, or have a healthy snack.
However, you must be disciplined to return to work and be productive when your break ends.
5. You don’t have to follow a dress code unless you want to
When most people think of working from home, they think of someone spending all day in their pyjamas in front of their laptop.
And it’s true. Unless you have a video meeting scheduled on that day, you can wear your pyjama all day long if you want to. There is no dress code to follow when you work from home.
However, many working from home feel that at least wearing casual clothes helps them feel more ready to focus on their work.
It’s up to you to pick your preference!
6. Your home might be less distracting than an office
This one isn’t true for everyone. You will have difficulty focusing on your job if you have young children at home or are never quiet during work hours.
But if you live alone or know the people sharing your home will respect your time and space, working from home could help eliminate distractions.
Some people are a lot more productive when they sit in a quiet room on their own compared to sitting in their cubicles surrounded by coworkers.
7. You might feel more at ease if you are an introvert
Finally, if you consider yourself an introvert, working from home should make you feel more at ease. You won’t have to interact with a coworker or two anytime you are not in front of your computer screen.
Even if you only work from home for a part of the week, it could spare you a lot of stress and pressure.
When you work from home, you can be yourself and do things your way, even if that’s not the most popular way.
